University Library

 
INTRODUCTION:
The University, initially known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, was set up on 26th August 1982 through on Act of the A.P.State Legislature (APOU Act 1982). Subsequently, the University was renamed as Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University on 26 October, 1991 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Open University Library was started in the year 1983. The Central Library is located in the main campus of the University at Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Library serves the needs of the teaching, non-teaching, research scholars and students of the University. Students are allowed for reference purpose only.
The library is fully automated . Libsys 10 is currently being used.
 
The objectives of the Library are:
  • To develop an appropriate collection in various disciplines to support the faculty in preparation of course material.
  • To help the self learning process of distance learning.
  • To support research.
  • To provide reading, lending, reference, information services to the staff, researchers and students.
  • To develop a special collection of distance education books and journals.
  • To develop IT enabled library & Information services to reach out the distance learner community.
Infrastucture
The Library is located on the First Floor: There is a University Librarian chamber, Administrative section, Acquisition/ Technical Section Journal/Serial section, Newspaper reading room, Xerox room, Circulation and Lending section, General issue books Stack Area, OPAC, Property counter, UPS room. The  Second Floor: has a Reference section, Back volumes of Journals, Thesis, University Course Material, Research Network Station with Internet facility.
 
Library Committee
The University Library has a Library committee to plan and monitor its developmental activities. The Committee is headed by the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman and all the Directors of various branches and Deans of Faculties are members and Librarian as Convenor of the committee. The Committee meets twice in a year to finalize the allocation of budget and other matters pertaining to library administration.
 
Finance
The University Library receives annual grants from the University’s resources and DEB, UGC Development Grant.
 
Library Collection (As of 31st March 2021)
TheLibrary has a total collection of over 1,50,721documents at the Central Library and the Study Centres. The collection includes - · Books  Non-book Materials (Audio-Video Cassettes, charts, maps, models, CD- ROM’S, ETC.)
